SWAN Day Celebration

at NPTC Studio, 458 West 37th Street @10th Avenue

This event launches the return of our $10 Donor Campaign
in support of the Meganne George Short Play Festival,
in which we seek to get 1,000 people to give us just $10 by May 31st.


Created by NPTC program assistants and interns, the evening features video clips
and short readings, quaffing and noshing, and lots of mingling!  
And a fun raffle just for attendees, so bring cash!

Attendance capacity is limited so make your $10 donation and reserve a spot

If you cannot attend, your $10 donation will still help us reach our goal! 
SWAN Day was inspired by Eve Ensler’s V-Day as a way to raise the visibility of
women artists and create a grassroots way to raise funds for their projects.
Under the leadership of WomenARTS, the first SWAN Day took place
on the last Saturday of March in 2008.

Melody Brooks Receives Lee Reynolds Award!

The LPTW Theatre Women Awards Luncheon will take place on World Theatre Day,

Monday, March 27th, 1pm – 3pm
Green Fig (570 10th Ave, 4th fl. YOTEL Times Square, New York, NY)
The ceremony and luncheon is a highlight of The League of Professional Theatre Women’s  40th Anniversary Celebration to honor seven women for
outstanding achievement in different categories.

NPTC is delighted to announce that Artistic Director Melody Brooks is an awardee!

 In honor of Lee Reynolds, an award-winning producer who mentored and developed writing talent, this award is given annually to a woman active in any aspect of theatre whose work has helped to illuminate the possibilities for social, cultural, or political change.

The Award will be presented to Brooks by long-time NPTC friend and associate OBIE-winner Stephanie Berry, who received the award last year.

NPTC has received critical and popular acclaim for its many innovative productions of Shakespeare plays and has developed a distinctive performance approach that is notable for immediacy of action and accessibility of the language to audiences of all ages and from all backgrounds. 

We are re-launching our 4-week workshop program for performers at all levels—from beginners to long-time professionals who want to conquer their fear of the text or strengthen their skills and audition repertoire. Conducted by Melody Brooks, NPTC’s award-winning artistic director and innovative Shakespeare educator, the program takes place in four, 3-hour sessions. Resource materials and text copies provided.

Malini is a native New Yorker who has been involved in the arts for her entire life. She's served the theatre in many aspects of which she's very proud – actress, director, producer, stage manager, costume designer, prop designer, theatre reviewer, publicist and most recently writer/monologist. She received her BA in Theatre Arts and English Literature from Baruch College and her MFA in Directing from the Actors Studio Drama School. In 2003, Malini and her husband, Ian, created Black Henna Productions with a handful of innovative artists. Every member of the company collaborates on every piece, either writing, acting, directing, designing, or filling any other role that fit their own personal skills with a commitment to bring new, exciting, and challenging theatre to the world. She is an associate member of Stage Directors and Choreographers Society and a member of the League of Professional Theatre Women. Malini received the Woman of Distinction Award for her contribution to Media, Arts and Culture from the City of New York in 2008. She is also a Person of Godspell which ran at Circle in the Square on Broadway from 2011-2012.
